Botox Q & A

How does Botox work?

Botox is a medication derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The microbe produces a toxin that’s injected in specific, safe, small doses to certain muscles in diluted amounts. When injected, the toxin weakens the muscles and blocks the signals from your nerves to your muscles. When injected into the face, your wrinkles relax and soften when your muscles can’t contract.

Dr. Tajkhanji provides Botox to address a number of cosmetic concerns, such as:

  • Scarring
  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines

Botox is provided as a quick in-office treatment that only takes a few minutes and requires no anesthesia. Dr. Tajkhanji injects Botox with a fine needle. There might be some mild and tolerable discomfort, but most people don’t report any discomfort.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Most healthy adults are suitable candidates for Botox. Dr. Tajkhanji can answer your questions during your personal consultation, where he also provides you with detailed information and helps you decide on the best aesthetic treatments for you.

If you’re a good candidate for Botox, before your treatment, you should avoid alcohol for a few days and aspirin for two weeks to reduce any possible bruising.

If you have a neurological disease or are breastfeeding or pregnant, you’re not a good candidate for Botox.

What can I expect after my Botox treatment?

After your Botox treatment, there’s no downtime and you can immediately return to your daily activities. Most people don’t have any symptoms. You might experience a mild headache that subsides shortly or mild bruising that typically resolves within a day or two.

Make sure you don’t rub or otherwise irritate the treated area for 12 hours after your treatment.

It can take from three days to one week to produce the best results from your Botox treatment, and the effects can last for up to four months or longer.

Your muscle function returns over time and your wrinkles might return. Additional treatments can help you to maintain your desired look and smoother skin. Even though wrinkles can come back with Botox, they’re never usually as noticeable and visible as they were previously.

Dr. Tajkhanji offers Botox for wrinkle reduction, skin tightening, and more. Fillers, injectables, and other aesthetic treatments work to safely and effectively combat the subtle signs and changes of aging.
